GIL (Global Information Link, or simply GIL for short) is the main in-game currency used for purchasing and selling equipment, Materia, food, inn rooms, teleportation services and other goods in FFXIV. GIL can also be earned through quests or dungeons completion. Most quests and dungeons offer substantial Gil rewards, with side content like leves often offering even more.
Crafting and Gathering
Crafting and gathering are among the quickest ways to earn ffxiv gil, often yielding several hundred thousand each week through selling your creations on the Market Board.
Gathering is another effective way of earning Gil in Final Fantasy XIV, as many materials in-game are in high demand and sell at attractive prices. This is particularly effective at the start of each patch cycle when new nodes and items remain less well known, often commanding higher selling prices when sold at auction.
Gil can also be earned by participating in missions and engaging in various in-game activities, such as running missions and Guildleves for your Grand Company Ventures, Beast Tribe Quests and Guildleves. Completion will earn you various items and gil, such as Company Seals that can then be sold back to the Grand Company Quartermaster NPC; making this method of earning Gil suitable for players of all levels and experience levels alike.
Reselling NPC Items
FFXIV offers numerous ways for players to earn Gil, including quests, dungeons and raid bosses, duty roulette rewards and some non-monster NPCs (such as Mugged Beastmen and NPCs). Food buffs are also worth an impressive sum while the Market Board often sells items at higher prices than players paid for them.
Market Board prices should be updated at night when most competitors are sleeping and can no longer undercut you with lower asking prices. Being consistent will help increase the amount of Gil you accumulate over time. Retainer Ventures are another method of collecting steady streams of Gil, by sending retainers out on various tasks that yield both money and other items such as food or materia – the more tasks completed by retainers increases their level and therefore increases rewards accordingly.
Treasure Hunts
FFXIV features several small Gil sinks built into its core gameplay that allow players to earn extra funds without grinding like they would in other games, including Treasure Maps, Duty Roulette and the Challenge Log as well as completing random dungeons each week.
Treasure Hunts offer quick and efficient ways of earning some gil quickly every hour. To participate, decipher a treasure map before heading out to its location to dig. When digging occurs, this will trigger waves of enemies which you can kill to earn loot like raw Gil for all party members, Allagan Tomestones or crafting materials/Materia that you can sell on the Market Board.
Treasure Hunts can be an excellent way to earn extra money during and immediately following a major patch release, when more players are scrambling for items needed for new content. Furthermore, Treasure Hunts provide an ideal opportunity to gather items necessary for gameplay in advance of new patch releases or as players stockpile items for new content that may still require them post-patch release.
Retainer Ventures
Retainers are NPC assistants that players can send on Ventures – missions which grant experience levels for current jobs as well as items to use during each venture undertaken. Retainers may be sent on various types of Ventures with rewards including furniture, endgame gear and materials that sell well on the Market Board.
Retainers can be obtained by talking to any Retainer Vocate in any major city’s market ward, or through purchasing a premium subscription. Each retainer comes equipped with 175 item slots and can store gil in its coffer.
To unlock Ventures, players must first complete An Ill-conceived Venture (part of Scions of the Seven Dawn). Once this quest is completed, accessing Retainer Vocators in each major city allows the player to send retainers on any type of Venture. Their equipment may have an effect on their success as a retainer; increasing level and perception will increase both quality and quantity of items received by their retainer.
